Yacht Safety Briefing and Life Jackets

Use the pre-sailing briefing to learn the named yacht’s real procedures, and ask the crew for a correctly fitting life jacket for every guest.

Official rules provide a useful safety baseline, but they do not certify a named yacht merely because a guide links to them. Antalya Governorate requires relevant excursion vessels to carry suitable life jackets and accessible safety equipment and to brief passengers before sailing. The Ports Regulation addresses capacity information, ready access to life-saving equipment and passenger information in its applicable categories. These duties belong to the operator and captain within the vessel's actual classification. Guests should use the sources to know what to ask, then rely on the briefing, equipment and instructions given for the booked yacht on the day.

Give the briefing your full attention even if you have taken boat trips before. Listen for the location of life jackets and other emergency equipment, the safe areas for guests, the boarding and movement rules, the response expected in an emergency and the instructions for swim stops. Ask immediately if a point is unclear or if the explanation is not accessible to someone in the group. Do not replace the crew's briefing with a summary from a website. Layouts, equipment positions and operating procedures differ, and the captain's current direction takes priority over a guest's memory of another vessel.

Correct fit matters as much as the presence of a life jacket. Turkish Coast Guard guidance explains that an adult jacket is not suitable for a child and that a jacket must fit the wearer rather than rise toward the face or fail to provide suitable support. Tell the operator the number of children and relevant sizes before the booking is final, and repeat the request to the crew if needed at boarding. Do not assume one model works for every age, body size, activity or sea condition. The crew should identify the equipment intended for each guest and explain how it is secured.

Ask where the assigned jackets are stored and how they are put on, adjusted and released. Coast Guard guidance emphasises accessibility and keeping equipment ready rather than blocked or difficult to reach. Guests should not move, test, open or repack safety equipment without crew direction, because readiness is part of the vessel's operating control. If someone has limited reach, reduced mobility, a sensory need or difficulty understanding the demonstration, state this before departure and request a practical explanation. Never hide a concern to avoid delaying the group; the useful moment to resolve fit and comprehension is before sailing.

Swimming ability does not remove the need to hear the safety instructions. The Antalya circular places responsibility on the operator and captain for supervision measures around swim stops, while the captain decides whether and where a proposed stop can operate under current conditions. Tell the crew about non-swimmers, anxious swimmers, children and any relevant health or mobility limitation before entering the water. Follow the stated entry, exit and return signal, remain within the area the crew identifies and come back when called. A private charter does not guarantee calm water, a particular bay, a fixed swimming duration or uninterrupted access to the sea.

Apply the same discipline to the published MY FREEDOM programmes. They run from Kundu at 09:30–15:00 and 15:00–20:30 for one private group of 1–12 guests, including children in the total. Those commercial facts do not prove compliance by themselves, and the generic official sources in this guide do not inspect or certify MY FREEDOM. Before payment, the written reservation should name the yacht, guest total, departure and boarding arrangement, programme, proposed route, included services and terms for operational change. On the day, the captain and crew remain the source for the yacht's actual safety briefing and equipment instructions.

A different duration or route, special equipment, a western-coast departure, an overnight stay or more than 12 guests requires a selected partner vessel named in a separate written quotation. Its departure, boarding method, schedule, proposed route, total price, inclusions, capacity and equipment questions must be answered for that particular boat. Treat any optional extra as included only when that written quotation confirms it. Do not carry a life-jacket statement, access assumption or safety description from MY FREEDOM to a partner vessel, or the other way around. Ask the selected operator to confirm child equipment and any special need before payment, then verify fit and instructions again with that vessel's crew at boarding.

Finish the safety check with a simple group plan. Choose one adult to keep the booking contact available, make sure every responsible adult knows which children they supervise and repeat the captain's key instructions within the group without changing their meaning. Keep walkways clear and personal items secured only where the crew permits. If weather, port instructions or operating conditions lead to a change, wait for the operator's written update and the captain's direction. No article can guarantee an incident-free trip. A careful charter begins with a named vessel, a complete guest count, suitable equipment, an understood briefing and guests who continue to follow the crew throughout the programme.

Common questions

How are the vessel and programme confirmed?

Before payment, the written quote names the vessel, departure marina, boarding and return times, and proposed route.

What is included in the price?

Nothing is assumed for a bespoke request or partner vessel. The written quote lists meals, drinks, fuel, harbour costs, transfers and any extra charges.

Can the route change?

Yes. The captain confirms a safe plan for the actual sea, weather and harbour instructions, and may change the route or stops when needed.

How is guest capacity confirmed?

Capacity is confirmed for the selected vessel in the written quote; larger groups may require a different vessel.
