About Patara
Patara brings together an extensive sandy shoreline and dunes with the archaeological remains of a principal political centre of ancient Lycia farther inland. The protected coast supports sea-turtle nesting. MY FREEDOM’s fixed programmes depart only from Kundu, and Patara is not one of those routes. A Patara request uses a selected partner vessel. Conservation rules, sea conditions and the partner captain’s assessment determine whether the plan is limited to a coastal view or another suitable activity is possible.
Getting there
Patara combines a long coastal landscape with an archaeological city behind the protected shore. The site can be understood from sea and land, but an offshore view does not guarantee a stop, swimming or landing. MY FREEDOM’s fixed programmes depart only from Kundu, and Patara is not one of those routes. A Patara request therefore uses a selected partner vessel. Before booking or payment, a separate written offer must identify the vessel, actual departure and boarding point, schedule, coastal route, price and inclusions. Open-coast conditions, current environmental restrictions and the partner captain’s safety judgement determine what can operate on the selected day.
The water
Patara faces open water rather than a uniformly sheltered bay, so waves, wind and shoreline conditions must be assessed on the day. Photographs cannot guarantee safe swimming, clear water or access to the beach. The captain should decide whether the area is viewed on passage or whether another stop is safer. Any shore approach must also respect the current protected-area and sea-turtle measures, which can change operational choices.
Through the season
Patara's history and landscape are relevant beyond a single season, while wildlife protection and sea conditions require date-specific planning. No month assures calm water, an uncrowded shore or permission for a particular activity. Before booking, ask for the proposed departure and vessel, clarify whether the programme means viewing, swimming or a separate land visit, and request the alternative used when weather or conservation rules prevent the preferred option.

Patara was the capital of the Lycian League and one of the central political places of ancient Lycia. Its harbour history includes a lighthouse built in the reign of the Roman emperor Nero, now an important focus of archaeological work. The coast is also within a Special Environmental Protection Area and supports protected sea-turtle nesting. These verified layers should be explained together without promising access through a boat programme.
